Electric Outdoors Celebrates One Year

Last week, Electric Outdoors, a pioneer in sustainable off-grid camping systems, celebrated its one-year anniversary. Applying learnings from its prototype and early stage development, the startup is getting ready to kick off its pilot phase in 2024. The first four EO Canopy units will be launched as part of a curated camping experience in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan this summer.

EVs Are Changing How We Go Camping

People who go camping tend to own EVs at a higher rate than non-campers, and it’s changing how both campgrounds and vehicle manufacturers approach meeting the needs of their customers. RV companies are building more aerodynamic trailers, EV makers are installing chargers in more remote locations, and campgrounds are going beyond electric RV hookups to include EV charging, according to CNN.

Highway 1 Collapse Causes Park Closures

A recent rainstorm caused a chunk of Highway 1 in California’s Big Sur to collapse and fall into the ocean, forcing several state parks in the area to close temporarily and camping reservations to be canceled. The state has seen repeated heavy rains this winter, and it’s not the first time this scenic section of the iconic road trip route has been hit by weather-related road closures. If you’re planning to visit the area, make sure to check road conditions and campground openings before you go.

Tesla Hits 6 Million Milestone

Tesla recently hit an impressive milestone: Since 2008, the company has delivered more than 6 million electric vehicles. But the company’s impact on the auto industry reaches well beyond the actual manufacturing of cars. Green Car Reports lists a few of Tesla’s accomplishments (and what it hasn’t been able to achieve), including changing the perception of EVs, scaling up battery production, and providing a wake-up call for the global car industry.

Camping Is Getting Harder as Demand Grows

According to The Dyrt’s 2024 Camping Report, nearly 50 percent of campers had trouble finding available campsites to book in 2023. First-come, first-served sites were also full at a much higher rate than previous years. As camping keeps getting more popular, will more people turn away from traditional campgrounds?
